Phase 1 : Assessment
Assessing the needs and limitations of a project is an essential part
of the process. While some designers and creative directors are willing
to overlook the importance of this initial discovery in order to commence
the design itself, Tony Jessup finds the development of a project roadmap,
which outlines the client’s wants and needs in conjunction with
a realistic timeline, to be an imperative tool, allowing for an accurate
proposal and budget.
Milestones: Proposal Accepted, Contract Signed, and Project Commences.
Phase 2 : Conceptualization
Once the proposal is accepted, the digital assets are gathered. Ideas
on napkins, thumbnail sketches and squeaky whiteboard markers make up
what will become a full campaign, a perfected concept, or a corporate
identity. In this brainstorming phase, the more ideas gathered, the
better. Rough creative designs with fresh content are presented to the
client, in order to reach a consensus on the vision’s direction.
Milestones: Information Architecture is created, Design
Compositions are presented, and Content Creation commences.
Phase 3 : Design
& Build
During this phase, the project designs are finalized with the client,
and implemented through production. Final changes to creative design
narrow as the coding is commenced, resulting in a working model encompassing
the clients’ needs and the creative director’s vision. .
Milestones: Final Designs, Beta Launch and Usage Guidelines
Phase 4 : Test,
Launch & Maintain
After the changes from the working model are tested, refined, and corrected,
the project is ready to go through Quality Assurance and bug fixing,
which allows for an important polish, necessary for any project. After
a successful launch, maintenance issues aimed at keeping content consistent,
creative, and fresh, are addressed with the client. A successful project
which yields positive returns is one that has a sustainable life of
updates without a recurring need for redesign.
Milestones: Finish Working Model, Quality Tests, Launch
and Maintenance
